Last Friday we celebrated the opening of our new 10th floor! Social Point has 3 floors so far!

We decided to throw a party and invite our friends and family. We had a lovely evening together and they had the chance to see where we work and who our colleagues are.

The event started with the arrival of our families and friends about 7 pm. First we gave them a tour around the office, which ended at the games room where a catering was preparing a delicacy for all of us. While having a snack we introduced each other’s friends and family members. Everything was great; we were eating, having fun, laughing and playing games.

As the night was advancing the stage was replaced with a DJ set and Social Point’s 10^th floor office turned into a big dance floor. It didn’t take long for us to get into dance mood and rock the dance floor until the early hours.

Yesterday a lot of things happened related to Social Point.

Starting with our Artist Jordi Villaverde who went to the school Milagros Consarnau (Hospitalet de Llobregat) and taught to 50 children how he usually illustrates books. He talked about one of his books “La Cova” and he drew the main characters and one large dragon. Children had a really great time asking questions and watching how he amazingly draws. When he finished the demo, he signed 50 books for them. It was an experience that they won’t forget for a long time!

Meanwhile we were at the Theater, the Socialpointer Andrés Díaz, member of the System team, went to give a talk at the Python Meetup Barcelona, an event that takes place in Barcelona regularly and they discuss topics related to the programming language Python. Andrés talked about “Mico: a monkey in the cloud” and the presentation was about Mico, a tool developed by Social Point in order to manage servers in the cloud. This tool allows creating and destroying servers dynamically, and then keeping the centralized settings and relaunching them in case of disaster.

Our CEOs Andres Bou and Horacio Martos, together with our Strategy & Business Development Manager Alicia Navarro and our Technical Leader of Mobile Sergi Vélez, are attending the GDC that it is being held this week in San Francisco.

The GDC is a Game Developers Conference which is the world’s largest and longest-running professionals-only game industry event.

This event attracts over 22,500 people and it’s the main forum where everyone involved in the game development industry gathers to exchange ideas and discuss about the future of the industry.

The event holds more than 400 lectures, panels, tutorials and round-table discussions taught by leading industry experts. The conference also features two important events: The fouteenth annual Independent Game Festival and the twelfth annual Game Developers Choice Awards.

Tomorrow in GDC is the Facebook Dev Day and the Social Point CEOs Andrés and Horacio will be participating in the talk. The Facebook Games Team will discuss new products and present ecosystem trends. Developers will learn how to grow their games on Facebook and across platforms, build core and mid-core games, optimize revenue and hear from other developers who build with Facebook Platform as Social Point.

Dragon City was launched in May 2012 on Facebook. Nowadays, it is a total hit with more than 6 million players enjoying it every day!

In Dragon City users can raise dragons and make them fight against others prevaling only the most powerful ones. They can place dragon’s habitats on different islans and create new dragons and species from breeding the already existing ones. There are hundreds of species to discover and each one of them have different powers, special skills, strengh and weaknesses.

As a living creatures, users need to grow and harvest food in farms so they can feed and raise their dragons. Different buildings can be built through all the floating magical islands. Users can visit their friend’s islands, to help others, to send them requests and gifts and also enter into combats against real people in the Player versus Player mode.

Yesterday March 17 was the Marathon of Barcelona. Despite of the rain, 18.000 runners attended the appointment and they made of the marathon a great success. The race was celebrated for the first time in 1978 and originally it was called Marató of Catalunya.

This year the winners are two Ethiopians (2:10:17h and 2:34:39h) and some Socialpointers had the courage to run all the way through until the goal! Even though none of them won the race, they had the chance to spend a lovely morning in the streets of this beautiful city. They are for sure an example of perseverance and inner strength that most of us would like to have. Congratulations!

Last Friday we all went to Gavà, a municipality in Barcelona Province, to have lunch and eat the popular Catalan vegetables called calçots. These are a type of scallion or green onions typically grilled and dipped in Romesco Sauce.

We left the office and three buses were waiting for us at the entry. As we drove to the restaurant people started thinking about the great mouth watering delicacy that was awaiting us. Our stomachs began to growl.

Finally we arrived to the place and we got charmed by the beauty of the spectacular landscape with a Mediterranean sea horizon and the mountains of the Garraf coast.

Everything was ready, tons of tables were set and the air was filled with calçots smell. We gathered around the tables and while we were waiting for food, some people were teaching to amateurs about how to peel a calçot. Thank God, the food started to arrive and we devoured it as if we were beasts.

When we were about to burst, and as the tradition demands, we went inside the restaurant where everyone sat and wait for the pieces of meat and bread slices that had been roasted in the charcoal after cooking the calçots. When we thought that we couldn’t eat anything more, the dessert arrived and we heard some funny toasts.

Today, March 13, our CEO Horacio Martos will be attending a Social Gaming Forum at the 5th edition of Barcelona eShow.

The eShow is a fair dedicated to ECommerce, Online Marketing, Hosting & Cloud Computing, Social Media, Mobile and Digital Signage. Its goal is to gather leading providers with the key sector clients.

The Forum, which will take place at Fira de Barcelona (Montjuic) will start at 16:15 and will last 45 minutes. Horacio will be discussing different subjects with Manel Sort, Head of Studio of King.com and with Vicenç Martí, CEO of Akamon Entertainment. Liam Patton, CEO of AppsTowin will moderate the Forum.

They will debate about different gaming platforms such as Facebook or mobile, game typologies (casual, casino, traditional,…), investment and financing, the vision of the internationalization from the perspective of each company, the specialized talent and how Barcelona has become the hub of Social Gaming at an international level.
