BARCELONA, Spain, June 24, 2014 is becoming a new international hub for talent, creativity and growth in the gaming industry. And there is no better example of this than Social Point, one of the fastest-growing studios in the international gaming space.
The Barcelona studio has today announced that its latest title for Android, Monster Legends, has already been featured by the Google Play Store within one week of its official launch.
Released for Facebook in September 2013 and for iOS 3 months later, Monster Legends is enjoying a groundswell of enthusiasm amongst players and the industry alike and was lauded as one of Facebook’s Top 10 Games of 2013.
Social Point co-founder and CEO, Andres Bou, said, “It’s unusual for a game to be picked up by Google so quickly after its launch and Monster Legends is in prestigious company amongst other top title featured on the Play Store, I think it speaks about the caliber and the real appeal of the game. So far we are seeing much faster growth than anticipated, with downloads of Monster Legends outstripping our expectations.”
Monster Legends is the second title for Android for Barcelona-based Social Point. Dragon City, the company’s hit dragon and breeding title, which is also featured on the Play Store this week, is one of the top-grossing apps on Android and has generated more than 10 million in-app purchases since inception.
Monster Legends offers more in-depth gameplay, immersing players in a world of extraordinary beasts that can be collected and bred for strategic battle in 3 on 3 head to head, or Adventure Map modes. Since launching on iOS the game has been on a significant organic growth tear, and consistently ranks amongst the top apps on the US App Store.
Barcelona – a New Hub for Gaming
2014 is on track to becoming a breakout year for Social Point. The company announced major growth milestones earlier this year and is set to eclipse previous earnings, crossing the $100M run rate by the end of the year a growth of more than 1000% from 2012.
And with four additional titles slated for 2014 release in the MASS or Mobile, Action, Social, Strategy Category Social Point has been quietly putting Barcelona on the world gaming map.
CEOs and co-founders Bou and Horacio Martos recently accepted the prize for Entrepreneurs of the Year from the Catalan President, Artur Mas. And Social Point has been lauded at Spain’s premier gaming event, Gamelab, this year, collecting the FICOD prize for most innovative studio of the year, 2014.
“Barcelona is becoming a powerhouse for gaming,” said Bou. “There is a strong culture of support for startups and entrepreneurs from sector experts in the city, as well as a number of world-class Masters programs, that are driving growth and innovation in the gaming space in Barcelona. What we have been seeing over the last three years or so is a growth in home-made talent that is starting to rival the likes of London, Berlin or Tel-Aviv.”
2014 is shaping up to be a “banner year” for Social Point with Monster Legends Android exceeding growth KPIs and continuing strong performance across the studio’s portfolio of titles.
“Dragon City is doing better than ever and Monster Legends looks set to continue this trend,” said Bou. “We will be launching some really new exciting titles around the summer period, including real-time strategy and 3D action games for mobile.”
