LIFE IN THE FAST LANE – KARTING (AND PAINTBALL) SOCIAL POINT STYLE

There are a couple of things we totally kill here at Social Point.

Designing, building and delivering non-stop awesome gameplay – goes without saying. Staying one step ahead of the curve? That’s a given. But there is another Social Point speciality that we are just as proud of. Having fun.And not just normal fun.

Mega, full-in-your-face, expert-level activated, planetary-sized Super Fun.

Last week we had a pretty good excuse to unleash some fun with the changing of the seasons – and the annual celebration of all things spooky, Halloween.

In the spirit of Things that Go Bump in the Night, the awesome Social Point HR gang cooked up an afternoon of hair-raising thrills and adrenalin-pumping spills. October 31 saw more than 170 Social Pointers cram into awaiting coaches to be whisked away to the wooded wonderlands of Castelloli – about an hour’s ride from Barcelona.

With thumping hearts we spilled out into a hazily sunny, warm October afternoon armed only with the knowledge that something awesome was about to unfold. And the HR team – yet again – did not disappoint.

An afternoon of high-speed go-karting pumped our adrenalin to breaking point. For the uninitiated, Karting is all about resistance. It’s about focus and not taking your eyes from the track. And it’s also about unleashing your inner racer – and thrashing it out circuit after circuit to claim first prize. Social Pointers became a blur of speed and motion, as they tore it up around the Castelloli Parcmotor. Marketers mixed it up with PHP programmers over more than 1340 meters of track that would make Formula 1 proud.

Some of us proved to be bigger Speed Kings and Queens than others, and prizes were awarded at the end of the race to the fastest times.

Now speed’s not the thing for everybody. And with this in mind, the second surprise of the afternoon was revealed – Paintball Time!

The sight of more than one hundred fully grown men and women, fully kitted out in Mario and Luigi helmets and camouflage gear, stalking each other down, armed with yellow paint … it’s not something we see every day at Social Point (though we do get through some serious Nerf Gun action back at HQ on a weekly basis!)

Luckily, our snap-happy HR expert and photographer, Eva, was on hand to record the moment for posterity.

So here it is: Halloween, Social Point style.
